York speedster James Thompson claimed two podium finishes in the inaugural overseas rounds of the www.theaa.com British Touring Car Championships.

A track record 15,000 crowd flocked to Ireland's 2.176-mile Mondello Park circuit in County Kildare and saw Vauxhall Astra Coupe driver Yvan Muller pocket a maximum 35 points as he claimed pole positions, fastest laps and victories in both the 15-lap round nine sprint and 30-lap round ten feature races.

Vauxhall Egg Sport's Thompson, also in an Astra Coupe, took a superb second spot in race one and third in race two, in which another Astra Coupe driver, Jason Plato, took second.

Thomspon now lies third in the championship standings on 111 points, 32 behind Frenchman Muller but only five behind second-placed Plato.
