Salsa mad schoolchildren wiggled their hips and tapped their feet as they launched the start of Dance Week 2001 in a very unusual place.
The kids donned their brightly coloured outfits and took to the stage in a sugar vat at British Sugar, in Boroughbridge Road.
Twenty children from Carr Infants School got the city moving in a week that is set to celebrate the world of dance in all its forms.
Dance Week York 2001 starts tomorrow and as part of a national campaign dance groups around the country were asked to "boldly dance where no-one had danced before" - and a sugar vat seemed an appropriately unusual one!
Janetta Maxwell, performing arts service dance consultant in York, said: "This unusual and exciting dance venue gave the children a chance to celebrate and enjoy their salsa routine and most importantly to have fun while dancing."
