I WAS sorry to hear that the City of York Council has got "rotten piles" at Monkgate roundabout (Footpath closed for repairs, June 11) and that a remedial cure is to cost a painful £100,000.
This may prove a sore point in the end for the council tax payers of York. They were expecting such money to be spent on rising and falling footpath bollards (skateboard activated!) at the Clifford's Tower Millennium "trip steps".
