ONCE again I have just driven from Tadcaster to the Hopgrove roundabout on the A64 and am still visibly shaking from the experience.
The volume and speed of traffic is horrendous. Anyone who still thinks it is inadvisable to close the gaps and enforce a speed limit on the Copmanthorpe to Tadcaster stretch must obviously be mad!
I cannot understand the thinking of Peter Moffatt, the Highways Agency and other objectors. If they conclude this stretch of road is so dangerous that it warrants closing the gaps, a new flyover and new road layout in 2004, why is the same stretch of road not as dangerous now - and wouldn't immediate closure of gaps, a speed restriction and cameras go some way towards safety until 2004?
Why was it appropriate to close some gaps and not others; are they less dangerous or is 'big business' calling the shots?
Three members of my family use this route twice a day. I hope Mr Moffatt's 'smaller scale measures for road safety' work!
