Young engineers from York and North Yorkshire took part in an exhibition to show off their own inventions.
Hundreds of primary schools took part in the Primary Engineers 2001 programme, which culminated with the exhibition at Thirsk Racecourse.
Teachers from 17 schools spent time with different companies, then went back into the classrooms to help children come up with their own engineering projects. Among the schools involved were Castle CE Junior School, Knaresborough, Kingsway Junior School in York, Kirkbymoorside Primary School, New Earswick Primary School, Pannal Primary School in Harrogate, Rillington Primary School near Malton, South Milford Primary School, St Mary's RC Primary School, Knaresborough, Brafferton CE Primary School, Tang Hall Primary School, West Cliff Primary School in Whitby and Western Primary School, Harrogate.
