NORTH Yorkshire County Council trading standards officers and the police are stepping up their joint patrols dedicated to checking vehicles carrying livestock and examining their documentation.
The council said there had been numerous complaints made and great concern expressed about the illegal movement of animals, as it could lead to the spread of foot and mouth disease. The patrols are aimed at catching those who break the rules and deterring those who may be thinking of doing so.
Stuart Pudney, head of trading standards and regulatory services said: "There has been great concern locally about allegations of illegal movements."We are particularly grateful for the assistance of North Yorkshire Police in ensuring the rules are adhered to. Where people are found breaking the transport rules, it will be treated extremely seriously."
