IT Sports York and District Mixed Tennis champions Poppleton will meet York tomorrow in a match which may decide the destination of the division one title.

Poppleton went to Fulford and had their closest match this season, winning 57-51.

Fulford's chances of lifting the title probably disappeared after they went to York and lost 67-41, with Andy Cooke and Wendy Shepherd leading the York challenge with 29 games.

Wigginton beat Stillington 57-51 in the bottom of the table clash to gain their first points, headed by Phil Langley and Sue Espiner (23 games).

Unbeaten Fulford's second team in division two reversed the result against York and won 61-47 to open up a gap at the top.

Richard and Di Ekers were again the top players for Fulford against York, for whom John Linfoot and Chris Place won 22 games. Fulford consolidated their lead with a 69-39 win at Castlegarth.

Poppleton beat Rowntree Park 55-53, coming from behind to take the points thanks to leading scorers John Anderson and Hilary Spencer winning their last rubber 8-4.

Poppleton III are also pushing for promotion in division three after they beat Tollerton 58-50. Dunnington II stay in second place, also unbeaten, after they won 72-36 at Riccall.

Dunnington and Poppleton meet on Thursday, which will be another game that might be a pointer to the divisional title.

Bubwith are dominating division four after a 69-39 win against Wigginton with Margaret Stevenson making her first appearance of the season along with Doug Smith to top score with 28 games.

Strensall won 69-39 at struggling New Earswick with their first couple of Richard Pears and Alison Smethurst top scoring with 26 games.

York won at Selby led by Pete Sutherland and Karen Retief, just ahead of Howard Pallister and Julie McNeil.

Another important fixture is tomorrow night when the two unbeaten sides in division five meet, leaders Wheldrake taking on unbeaten Wilberfoss.

Wheldrake stayed top after they 61-47 at Fulford with George Tattersall and Helen Hadfield taking the honours although none of Wheldrake's pairs could beat Fulford's Steve Price and Beryl Bean.

Wilberfoss warmed up for their challenge with a 77-31 win at Rowntree Park. Their top scorers were Mark Tebbutt and Chris Oldfield.

Ben Cookman and Betty Bainton led Stillington's challenge when they beat Appleton Roebuck 81-27, just being outscored by Graham Cookman and Barbara Watson-Breeze, who won 30 games.

Riccall are still at the top of division six after their 57-51 win over bottom club Dunnington.

Cawood moved away from the wrong end of the table with a 63-45 win against Bishopthorpe who stay in the second automatic relegation place.Cawood's top scorers, Mike Thurston and Lesley Savage, won their last rubber 10-2 to seal the win.

Division seven is wide open with only two points separating the top five sides.

Wigginton put together a 55-53 win at Tadcaster and 61-47 win at Tollerton to keep themselves in with a shout. Tollerton bounced back with a 57-51 win against Sheriff Hutton.

Strensall turned the match round in the final rubber against Wistow to win 59-49 after trailing after the first two rounds.
