Wigginton-based racing cyclist Phil Brighton won one event and finished third and fourth respectively in the two circuit races in the Pendle forest Criteriums held on the Salt Ayre Circuit at Lancaster.
The three-stage event involved two circuit races and a sprint elimination round, for Elite 1 and 2 category riders.
In the first race Brighton and eight other riders broke away from the bunch to set up a sprint finish.
With only 150 metres to go, two riders touched wheels causing Brighton to break sharply. This gave Ian Barnett (Clayton Velo) and Chris Anderson (Lakes RC) a four bike length lead and it was impossible even for Brighton, who is renowned for his sprinting power, to make up the gap. Anderson went on to win from Barnett with Brighton third. Three riders broke clear on the fifth lap of the second event. Brighton tried unsuccessfully several times to bridge the gap. Matthew Lythgoe (Ribble Valley CRC) went on to win, Brighton taking the bunch sprint for fourth place.
Brighton won the final event, known as 'The Devil', which started with 39 riders and came down to Brighton beating Anderson in a final sprint.
