From a Jim Royle look-alike at Tockwith to outdoor chess in York, from the flower-decked All Hallows' Church at Sutton-on-the-Forest, everyday events still roll on, fitting round foot and mouth where necessary.
And some things never change. In Knaresborough, the annual bed race again saw teams of bed-pushers racing round the town, an eccentric but endearingly familiar sight.
