THIS week we commemorate an event which took place 30 years ago - the Lord Mayor's Parade to celebrate York's 1900th birthday.
As our pictures show, people from across the region flocked to the city to join the party, which saw a full year of events rounded off by a huge parade on June 7,1971.
People from York's colourful past were represented at the parade - from the invading Romans, who founded York in AD 71, right through to the flared and hot pants-wearing aresidents of the city in the early 1970s.
Organisers also made sure that historical figures such as highwayman Dick Turpin and Richard III did not miss out.
