THE situation in division three mirrored that of the second division in that three games were abandoned without any play.
One result has not been notified and a fair amount of play was possible in two games.
Heworth's Jonathan Simpson found the Osbaldwick track to his liking as he moved to what is believed to be a career best 130 not out. Graham Hogben made 46 and Simpson's innings was ended by his skipper's decision to declare at 203 for 1 once the full batting points had been achieved in 38 overs.
The decision was clearly justified when the hosts were dismissed for 103 as Heworth became the only side to claim the maximum 30 points. Osbaldwick's runs came from Matt Lofting (40) and Stuart Hall (26) but Graham Morritt, with 3 for 18, and Rich Winterburn, who had 3 for 27, had the final say.
At Sutton on Derwent, Woodhouse Grange bowlers Paul Townsley, with 4 for 45, and Peter Nolton, Woodhouse's joint clubman of the year in 2000 and took 5 for 48, pegged Hovingham to 146 for 9. Stuart Prest was the top visiting batsman, hitting 40. Dave Langton led the Grange's reply and had made an unbeaten 35 out of 69 for 2 when the match was abandoned.
League newcomers Hornsea and Malton & Old Malton were both unable to make a start due to waterlogging.
Hornsea's Hollis recreation Ground has suffered badly from both football and rugby and their game with Cawood became a casualty while Malton's game at Heslington was also a non-starter, the Outgang Lane ground also having suffered from football damage due to the excessively wet conditions.
