BOGGY grounds caused havoc in the first division with three games being abandoned without a ball being delivered.
These were Beverley v York, Carlton Towers v Stamford Bridge and Pocklington v Stillington. Two of the remaining games were called off in mid-stream, leaving the Dringhouses v Duncombe Park encounter as the only completed game in the division.
At St Helen's Road hosts Dringhouses were reduced to 30 odd for 4 in the 25 overs as Duncombe Park's third Zimbabwean Piet Rinke moved towards his final figures of 4 for 47. Chris Evans with 35 and Mick Kenyon who made 26 engineered a modest recover and helped their side to 139 for 8. Unfortunately Kerryon suffered a hamstring injury which rendered him unable to bowl and Park had little problem in grabbing an early divisional advantage with a five wicket win. Will Mallory made 42 but the match-winning knock came from Peter Humpleby who made an unbeaten 68.
Crayke appeared to be marginally ahead when their low scoring game at Sessay was abandoned. Mark Hutchinson with 5 for 45 and Andrew Dawson 4 for-35 had dismissed Sessay, for whom Nick Harrison made 27, for 85. Matthew Till then hit back with 4 for 12 as Crayke's batsmen also struggled on a track which had been badly affected by rain throughout the spring and the game was at a most interesting state with Crayke having lost half their wickets still requiring 22 to win when the weather applied the guillotine.
Wilberfoss were denied a fifth wicket century stand when, after adding 99 with skipper Ian Clish, Mike Stothard was run out for 45. Clish went on to make 83 in a total of 169 for7 at Driffield as home bowler Paul Dixon claimed 4 for 63. In reply, Phil Woodcock made 31 but the weather took charge after Driffield had reached 57 for 2.
