YORK Rugby Union Club's Under 10s are aiming to emulate Malton and Norton's senior side and win at Twickenham
But while Malton's Tetley's Bitter Vase triumph was played out before a few thousand at rugby's headqurters, the Clifton Park boys will be playing there in front of a packed house.
They have qualified for the Scottish Amicable Cup finals which is to be played as a curtain-raiser to the England v Barbarians game on May 27 at the 75,000 capacity stadium.
The lads booked their day out at the home of rugby with a great showing in the qualifying tournament at Nottingham University which attracted big name clubs like Bath, Northampton, Richmond and Rosslyn Park.
Fourteen teams of nine-a-side were split into two pools of seven with the top two from each pool going through to Twickenham.
The York boys lost only one game - and that was by a single try - to Worcester.
As a result Worcester edged out York at the top of their group but both sides made it through to play at the home of rugby.
"I think the boys are the first side from York to play at Twickenham. They have done really well and it is going to be a very special day for them," said coach Kevin Johnson.
Their results at Nottingham were Northampton drew 0-0, Hull Ionians won 5-0 (Rhys Mills try), Chelmsford won 20-0 (Mills 3, Luke Bowler), Doncaster won 10-0 (Mills 2), Sidcup won 25-0 (Mills 2, Bowler, Johnson 2)
York's junior section is really buzzing.
In addition to the trip to Twickenham, both the Under 10s and Under 11s have reached Yorkshire Cup finals at West Park Bramhope on May 6. The younger group are to play Sandal, while the Under 11s face Malton and Norton.
The Malton boys were at Twickenham last week putting on a display of skills before their seniors beat Hoylake in the Vase final.
There's another batch of York youngsters also coming through as the Under 8s at Clifton Park are unbeaten in two years.
Leeds Tykes will be crowned National Division One champions and officialy clinch promotion to the Zurich Premiership today if they win at Henley.
At the opposite end of the table, former York coach Peter Clegg knows that victory for his Otley team over fellow strugglers Bedford at Cross Green will secure their National Division One status for a second season.
