THIS pair of childhood friends are celebrating 50 years of happy marriage today, with not one but two parties for family and friends.
Alf and June Noble are keeping their golden wedding festivities going all weekend in celebration of a partnership which was sparked when they were just children.
The pair met as youngsters, when Alf's aunt lived next door to June's family in Weaverthorpe, between Malton and Scarborough. But they did not get together until June's 21st birthday party in the village hall in August 1949.
Within six months they were engaged and the following year married.
Alf, 77, and June, 72, tied the knot in St Andrew's Church in Weaverthorpe and spent much of their married life in that area, before more recently moving to The Avenue, at Rufforth.
June said: "We'd known each other for years, Alf's aunt was like a sister to my mum so our families were close.
"I think the secret to a successful and happy marriage is give and take, which most couples don't seem to do nowadays!
"You've got to work at a marriage and, of course, have that vital ingredient - love."
The golden couple have two sons, Richard and Andrew, and seven grandchildren.
