THERE'S nothing like a bit of retail therapy to take your mind off the appalling spring weather. A stroll through the city centre is all it should take to remind you that summer is around the corner.
As you eye the new collections in the high street stores, picture your nearest and dearest in the latest trendy looks, perhaps enjoying a fun day out, or a picnic in the park... and suddenly, it doesn't seem too bleak.
Yes, believe it or not, it will soon be time to banish the woollies and don some lighter gear.
This year, being fashionable is definitely a family affair. The key catwalk trends have filtered down to the high street, not just for mum and dad, but for children too. In fact, never has it been so trendy to be a little person. When it comes to being stylish, size is no barrier.
Denim is the big style story this summer. Dressed up or down, it's perfect for day or evening wear.
For women and girls, flowers will have lots of pulling power. Floral prints, embroidery and accessories are the looks to go for. Stripes are striking out on the style front too, on T-shirts, cotton shirts and shorts too.
While bright colours are the essence of a summer wardrobe, bear in mind the trend for no colour this season. Monochrome is making its presence felt, with black and white being the signifier of simple sophistication this summer.
Military gear has been a style staple for a few seasons and this year is no exception. Besides the usual suspects of cargo pants and combat shorts, look out for shirts with army-like detail and even shirt dresses for women.
And remember mum and dad, where ever you step, junior is following in your fashion footsteps.
