Powerful prop forward Andy Hutchinson could be available for York Wasps' home clash with Whitehaven on Sunday as the disciplinary procedure against him rumbles on.
Hutchinson was banned for six matches the week before he joined York after being sent off while playing for Sutton Trust in the Hull and District League.
The Hull and District disciplinary committee deferred that suspension until he returned to the amateur ranks. However, the issue was brought up again last week amid claims that the ban should cover all competitions, including the professional game.
Hutchinson was left out of the side against Workington last Sunday while the matter was being investigated.
Wasps' chief executive Ann Garvey has since been involved in lengthy discussions with the British Amateur Rugby League Association and the Rugby Football League to try and reach a solution.
Explaining the current situation, she said: "We have come to an agreement with both parties that we will play him until the RFL get a letter from BARLA stating that he is banned.
"We are fully aware that he has got a six-match ban hanging over his head.
"When that is going to be put in place is up to the RFL and BARLA."
However, the RFL have confirmed that last week's match will count as part of the ban once it comes into effect. That means Hutchinson will only have to sit out another five matches instead of six.
Hutchinson initially joined York on a month's loan from Sutton Trust. Ironically, the day before the disciplinary problem arose last week they extended his stay until the end of the season.
Supporters are reminded that Sunday's game will kick-off at 4pm to allow those attending the Challenge Cup final more time to travel back to York.
