Four young boys were today found swimming naked in the River Ouse in the centre of York.
The boys, who were playing truant from their Tang Hall school, were splashing about in the river near Queen's Staith for one bone-chilling hour until police arrived.
The nine and ten-year-olds were asked to dress and taken to the Clifford Street police office where their parents and the school were called.
Acting Sergeant Nick Smart, of York police, said: "The potential for disaster is mind-boggling but they seemed to be blissfully unaware of their predicament."
