York teenager Fiona Maynard has been selected to represent Yorkshire at the Disability Sport England National Championships to be held in Blackpool in June.
Maynard, who is visually impaired, was one of the star performers at the recent Yorkshire Electricity PowerPlay junior athletics event at South Leeds Stadium, and her achievements in the long and high jump secured her a place in the national finals.
The 15-year-old, who attends Canon Lee School in York, is no stranger to such events, having set a new championship record when winning a gold medal at the Edinburgh school championships for visually impaired students last year.
She said: "Getting the qualifying height in the high jump is great. I'm really looking forward to competing against other athletes from all over the country. Hopefully I'll come back with a few more trophies."
