Tanner Row car park will be closed in October as work starts on a four star hotel.
City of York Council's executive member for planning and transport, Dave Merrett, confirmed the closure and said most of the displaced vehicles were expected to use other car parks in the city.
A proposal to pull down the 255-space car park, in the former Presto building on the corner with George Hudson Street, and replace it with a Thistle Hotel, was given planning permission in November. It was opposed by the Liberal Democrats, who said it would leave the city with too few parking spaces. Demolition is due to start by the end of the year.
