Muck has been turned into brass to give churches across Yorkshire a major boost.
The Archbishop of York, Dr David Hope, has been presented with a cheque for £200,000 raised through the Landfill Tax Credit Scheme.
The money, which follows a grant of £100,000 last year, will be used by Yorkshire Historic Churches Trust (YHCT) to restore places of worship across the region. Environmental body Waste Recycling Environmental Ltd (WREN) manages the Landfill Tax Credit Scheme on behalf of Waste Recycling Group.
Colin Clarkson, chairman of YHCT, said: "I am delighted that WREN is making this very substantial grant and our work across Yorkshire will be significantly enhanced by this contribution."
The scheme gives waste management companies the opportunity to invest up to 20 per cent of their landfill tax bill in community, environmental, research and education projects in their area.
