A PRINCESS who will lead a procession to a North Yorkshire village carnival has been crowned.

Rachel Morley, ten, will take pride of place at this year's Copmanthorpe Carnival, accompanied by attendants Lucy Boswell, ten, and eleven-year-old Laura Smith.

The three were chosen from a hopeful line-up of about 20 potential village princesses.

Carnival organiser Sally Askins said: "The princess and her attendants will travel at the head of the procession in an open-topped car.

"They were chosen at the Carnival Princess's Disco, where judges watched them dance and asked them questions .

"This year's really was a tough choice, and they're all very excited about it."

Rachel, Lucy and Laura will follow in the footsteps of dozens of princesses who have opened the annual carnival since it was started in the 1920s.

This year's event takes place on July 7.
