PETE Musson won York and District Snooker Association's inaugural Champion of Champions snooker tournament, beating Peter Lawson 2-1 in the final at the Cueball Club.
Lawson had a 21 points a frame handicap start against Musson and the first frame went to a re-spotted black, Musson winning 60-53.
Lawson won the second frame 65-45 on the blue and he raced 38-0 ahead in the deciding frame. Musson recovered and potted the last four colours in one visit to win the frame 87-48 for the match.
The final was refereed by association chairman Phil Anderson. The trophy was presented by Shelley Robinson on behalf of competition sponsors Heworth Minibuses.
The competitors were the winners of the association's monthly handicap snooker tournaments held between March last year and February this year.
In the preliminary round Musson beat Burton Lane WMC's Glen Mountain, who recorded the overall highest break in the dozen monthly tournaments, a 59 break back in November. Musson won the first frame on the colours and took the second 81-36.
Peter Lawson, the August winner, beat Ian Harrison 2-0 and Phil Anderson received a walkover as John Dodd was unable to attend because of work commitments.
Anderson, Lawson and Musson won their quarter-finals and fourth match saw Paul Stanton (INL WMC) beat Paul Roberts (Cueball Club).
Stanton, receiving a 14 point handicap start, won the first frame 63-42. Roberts took the second 86-45 and the deciding frame went to the wire. Both players missed chances on the final black until Stanton held his nerve to pot it for a 59-46 win.
Musson beat Stanton 2-0 in the semi-finals with the help of a 22 break in the second frame. Lawson pipped Anderson 2-0, getting the required snooker and the last pink and black to win the second frame 46-45.
