This Sunday members of the York Acorn Running Club will compete in the London Marathon.

Jon Butler, our Communigate Advisor caught up with Jenny Rowland the clubs publicity officer to find out how the club is benefiting from their free Communigate site.

For Jenny, this year's event marks her 30th full road marathon! Along with club colleagues Dave Chaplin, Julie Hills and Geoffrey Hope the quartet will be running to raise funds for Martin House Childrens' Hospice and anybody wishing to make a donation can contact Jenny on York 422338.

"I like to think we are one of the friendliest running clubs in the north, but that doesn't mean we are not competitive," said Jenny. "Now we have the Communigate website we have been able to keep in touch with our members and the running scene as a whole much more effectively. Running clubs from all over the world have been in touch through the site, and we have had several e-mails from people abroad wanting information on local events that they can participate in while visiting York."

Jenny also confirmed that club members find the site extremely informative and regard it as a permanent 'notice board' where they can keep a check on social events and fixtures.

Dave Chaplin is a new member who was attracted to the clubs website because of its ease of use and the fact that it was bursting with content. Dave hopes to finish Sunday's race in a time of 2 hours 40 minutes, 2 minutes faster than his previous best.

Meanwhile, Haxby Karate Club is holding its grading tests at Wigginton Recreation Hall tomorrow at 2pm.

The guest will be the chief examiner for Europe, Japanese instructor Shihan Kato, an 8th Dan blackbelt.

"This is a very special day for all our members," said club instructor John Gude. "Kato will be giving a demonstration while instructing and the public are welcome to come and watch."
