How can the city council claim 'we haven't received any complaints at the council on lighting pollution at the Millennium Bridge' (Friday, April 13)?
I have complained in person to the head of lighting.
Fishergate Forum had complained to its councillors. Few are happy with a lighting scheme which makes it too bright to see the river properly and so poorly sited that the stairs down to the river path are in shade.
I'm sad that the designers and planners, lighting engineers and architects couldn't have devised something more appropriate.
After all the university is only miles away from the site. And there, with carefully-sited and shaded lighting, the true beauty of the water is allowed to shine through yet the walkways are all clearly lit and safe.
I am sad for an opportunity missed.
I am sadder that the council doesn't even realise that people are unhappy about its error.
