In response to Graham Horne's letter (April 14), yes the new bridge is great.
But as a walker, driver and cyclist and after a lifetime spent with able-bodied and disabled people, I think I have a wider view on life than Mr Horne.
For many people a car is a necessity not a luxury. Without a car my husband could not get to work, we could not visit family and friends living in remote areas and I could not get to my voluntary work in the country. York without cars?
What becomes of the shops? Many of our customers need to park outside the shop or in nearby Castlegate car park.
So take off your blinkers Mr Horne and look around you. The village of Bishopthorpe is a good place to start.
There are many elderly and some disabled people there and you never know, one day even you may need the benefit of a car.
