WHILE Dr Campbell and P Morrow (Letters, April 13) are absolutely right in identifying the many geographic and cultural origins of our United Kingdom, it is not what they say but what they don't say that concerns so many people.

Looking to the future, and not just the past, most people would not wish to include in our so-called multi-cultural society bogus asylum-seekers, or those from the Indian sub-continent and elsewhere who came here with no intention of integrating but spend much of their time trying to get their extended family here as well.

What of Romanian gipsies who see aggressive begging as a life-style choice? Or Chinese Triad gangsters who trade human misery while do-gooders talk about their rights? Or economic migrants who pass through several safe European countries before arriving here only then to claim asylum?

And finally, illegal immigrants who disappear into the black economy never to be seen again. If this is the 'multi-cultural' society that some rejoice in then it really is true that there are none so blind as those who will not see. Perhaps Enoch Powell was right after all.
