York Acorn all but secured their National Conference League division two status with a 20-0 home win over an outplayed Milford Marlins outfit.

Acorn's impressive end-of-season form continued as they carried out their

game plan perfectly and restricted Milford to only one real scoring chance.

Acorn's power continually had Milford back-pedaling and running out of ideas.

Outside the forwards, stand-off Stewart Ridsdell was outstanding combining

power with subtle ball-handling skills to keep the Acorn attack buzzing.

Other notable performers were prop forward Nicky Caldwell, second rower Carl Rollinson and loose forward captain Lee Frank, while winger Tim Wilcock excelled with several line clearing runs.

Acorn took control from the off, when on two minutes acting half-back Stephen Waldron drew the defence before putting a neat grubber kick into the corner to allow winger Shaun Gilmoor to score.

Milford were guilty of poor discipline early on and Acorn full-back Jon Hough

notched two penalty goals.

Acorn moved further ahead on 22 minutes when great ball work and support play split open the defence and saw Ridsdell break into space and round the full-back for a try Hough converted to give Acorn a 14-0 lead.

Acorn nearly increased their lead on 34

minutes when a fine back-door pass by Nicky Caldwell saw centre Alan Willitts

break down the left before flipping out a pass to winger Gilmoor, who was unable to take the ball.

Acorn did increase their lead on 57 minutes as Ridsdell cut through a bemused defence before sending the equally impressive Carl Rollinson storming over under the posts from 20 yards out.

Hough converted to give this young Acorn side an impressive home victory.
