The Rotary Club of York has given a £1,000 boost to plans for a group of Tadcaster Grammar School pupils to go on an expedition to Mozambique.
The senior students are set to hike for several days through the jungle later this year, carrying various medical supplies and sports equipment for a poorly-equipped school.
Vic Florey, then a teacher at the school, spoke to the Rotary club last September about his expeditionary plans.
"We were very impressed and have since organised an orchestral concert which raised a sizeable sum," said club president John Liley.
"We have also solicited and donated prizes for a major raffle which Vic has organised."
