Attack will be the name of the game for York Wasps this week as they prepare for Sunday's visit of Workington Town.

Coach Lee Crooks revealed he would be turning his attentions to the Wasps attacking prowess during training after they managed just one try in yesterday's defeat by Batley Bulldogs.

He said: "You can only work on so much at once and up to now we've been working on our defence. We defended well for most of the game, we just got caought out with a couple of lapses, but now we've got to work on attack.

"We need to ask far more questions of their defence when we get into their third of the field and now we've got the players to do that."

Crooks had few complaints about the performance of a new-look York side who are still learning each other's names.

Neil Harmon, Rob Roberts and Aaron Campbell all made their debuts to further strengthen a team which had shown vast improvement in Friday's defeat at Hunslet.

Crooks was pleased with all their efforts but believes the best is still to come.

He said: "Neil hasn't played for a long time so he went exceptionally well. I think Rob's got a lot more left in his tank football wise. When the players get to know what he's going to do he'll be a valuable addition to the team.

"They've both got experience in Super League. You can tell the way they talked in the training sessions and the way they talked in the game. I think the other players raised their game and enjoyed playing with them.

"I still believe we need a couple more players to push for places and if we can do that the season's not as dead and buried as it might have looked a couple of weeks ago."

Crooks' prayers could be answered this week with a couple more signings in the pipeline, including former Leeds Rhinos winger Leroy Rivett who is expected to sign this week.
