Trainer Alan Jarvis, apparently left shocked by the defeat of Trop Chere at Southwell last month, can replace disappointment with delight at Newmarket tomorrow.
Trop Chere returns to action in the Bartlow Maiden Fillies' Stakes and is napped to recover initial losses in the hands of Pat Eddery.
Jimmy Fortune was in the saddle when the two-year-old made her debut at Southwell and it was some indication of her high reputation that she was sent off favourite to make a winning start to her career.
Nothing went right, however, and, after making a slow start and then being squeezed out, Trop Chere had no chance of recovering the vital lost ground. In the end, she did extremely well to finish as close as seventh.
That experience will not have been wasted and Trop Chere, clearly held in high regard in the Jarvis stable, can bring a smile to her trainer's face tomorrow.
The £30,000 Victor Chandler European Free Handicap is the feature race on the card and is one of four being televised live on Channel 4.
North Yorkshire is strongly represented here by Down To The Woods, trained at Middleham by Mark Johnston.
The three-year-old, who will have the assistance of Kevin Darley, showed high class form last season and should be particularly well suited to the seven furlongs distance of the race.
Kieren Fallon underlined his talents when winning the feature race at Kempton yesterday on Border Arrow and the triple-champion jockey can again figure on the scoreboard tomorrow.
Fallon has been booked by trainer Chris Dwyer to partner Livius in the Babraham Handicap and the hint should be taken.
A useful handicapper on his day, Livius is a new recruit to Dwyer's Newmarket stable and is the sort to thrive in the hands of the shrewd ex-jockey, who spent a large part of his riding career in Ryedale.
Fallon can also lift the Racing Review Magazine Rated Handicap on Free Rider, trained by Ian Balding, also the handler of Border Arrow.
A decent performer, Free Rider should be all the better for his outing over six furlongs at Doncaster last month when he finished sixth to Now Look Here. Tomorrow's longer distance should suit him better.
In the Weatherbys Earl of Sefton Stakes, Albarahin should take all the beating in the hands of Richard Hills.
Marcus Tregoning's prolific winner looked in need of the race when narrowly beaten by Right Wing at Doncaster last month.
He can turn the tables on his conqueror in tomorrow's Group 3 contest.
Tomorrow's scheduled Beverley meeting has been abandoned after an inspection of the waterlogged course yesterday confirmed that it was unfit for racing.
Tomorrow's tips:
Newmarket
2.05 - Free Rider
2.35 - Albarahin
3.10 - Livius
3.40 - Down To The Woods
4.15 - Trop Chere (Nap)
4.45 - Silky Dawn
5.20 - Radiant Sky
