PART of Whitby was shut off and bomb disposal experts called in after a suspect suitcase sparked a security alert.
The area around the junction of Langbourne Road and Newquay Road was cleared of traffic and pedestrians for more than two-and-a-half hours after the brown suitcase was spotted on a roundabout at about 4pm.
A bomb disposal team from Catterick Garrison was called in and a controlled explosion was carried out. North Yorkshire Police said the suitcase was found to have been "inert".
