YORK coalman Daniel Wright is aiming to spend Easter Monday becoming the coal carrying champion of the world.
Daniel, 23, of New Earswick, is taking part in the World Coal Carrying Championships at Ossett, near Leeds.
Daniel, who works for the family coal business J H Wright and Son, based at Gate Helmsley, says he took part last year, when the event was televised on Transworld Sport on Channel 4.
He says he came 6th out of 30, even though he had not done any special training.
"This time I've done lots of hill runs with an eight-stone sack up the hills off Garrowby, and I feel confident I will win," said Daniel, who boxes and plays rugby for Heworth.
