But Old Malton on course for crown...

LEEPER Hare York and District League premier division leaders Old Malton struggled to salvage a point in a 2-2 midweek draw away to the young Wigginton Grasshoppers' side.

Grasshoppers were 2-0 up at half-time, with goals by Owen Willis and Tom Matthews. Mick Henderson pulled a goal back with a great strike and after the visitors had forced home goalkeeper Mark Cammidge to make a couple of brilliant saves Phil Hill snatched the equaliser.

It was only the third point that Old Malton have dropped this season and they still remain on course for the championship.

Boroughbridge, one of the few teams that can catch Old Malton, clawed a couple of points back by winning 3-0 at Dunnington after a goalless first half.

Dunnington striker Mike Walker forced a full-length save by goalkeeper Alistair Hogg before Les Gray headed Boroughbridge ahead midway through the second half after a cross from the right by Mark Scholfield.

Boroughbridge wrapped up the points with two goals in the last five minutes from Paul Stephenson with a 40-yard shot, and a second goal by Gray. Daz Ekin and Gray were the pick of the Boroughbridge team, with Rich Fountain, Paul Culkin and Mike Walker best for the home side.

Four second half goals gave Bishopthorpe a 5-3 win at Huntington Rovers, who put the visitors ahead with an own goal. Chris Dower equalised and then put Rovers ahead. He put them 3-1 up in the second half for his hat-trick but Bishopthorpe raised their game and won with goals by Eddy Weselius, Chris Smith, Scott Clapham and Julian Todd.

Rovers were without their first choice goalkeeper, who was replaced for this game by 16-year-old Tony Hair.

Rufforth won 3-0 at home to New Earswick, Andy Moss giving opening the scoring and Tom McKay, home from university for Easter, adding two goals.

Kartiers maintained their good run of form with a 5-2 win at CGU, who remain anchored at the foor of the table.

Mark Lucas, Andy Woodall and Ian Jennings put Kartiers 3-0 ahead by the interval. Steve Arksey pulled a goal back for CGU from the penalty spot. Lucas got his second goal for Kartiers and then Rich Hunter scored for CGU before Graham Cannon notched the fifth for the visitors.
