YOU recently published our urgent appeal for volunteer drivers to help Ryedale Car Scheme.
This is the local community transport organisation which helps people who find it difficult to access public transport. It proves a vital lifeline for the elderly, the disabled and those on fixed incomes.
We thank you for your help.
We are delighted to report that 14 new volunteers have contacted us. This has greatly eased the pressures on the popular service.
However, we still need more! We would particularly welcome women drivers because they are under-represented in our team. Volunteers are paid 30p a mile to cover fuel and vehicle running costs.
They do not need to make a regular commitment - they merely need to register to say they are willing to be asked to help by ringing me on 01653 600120.
