York's David Stroughair and Phil Parsons defend unbeaten records in the grand finals of the Famous Grouse Four Nations' Top Ten Bowls Classic at Darlington this weekend.

Stroughair is unbeaten after four singles and two triples matches in the regional qualifiers, while Parsons has strung together four games without defeat.

Their clubmate Iain Boyle has lost only once in six matches.

In this unique tournament, the winners of 16 regional qualifiers held throughout England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales this season, will battle it out for the prestigious trophies and the £10,500 in prize money in the grand finals.

As well as the team championship there will be prizes for winning the singles, pairs, triples and four leagues.

Each player is guaranteed six matches in this four-day festival, which starts tomorrow.

York open their singles campaign with matches against Folkestone, Victory of Portsmouth and Exonia, Exeter, who are captained by world bowls players champion Ian Bond.

In the fours, also tomorrow, York play East Dorset, Falcon (Chelmsford) and Croydon.
