A Spring charity concert held in the York Salvation Army Citadel, in Gillygate, has raised £440 for our Hospice 2000 Appeal.
The concert was organised by Keith Noble, a member of the Salvation Army and a volunteer driver for the hospice, and Jim Wright, from the Sheffield Citadel, acted as MC and conductor for the evening.
Members of the city centre Christian Fellowship had worked very hard selling tickets to friends and family - including those members performing on the night!
The 200-strong audience, of all ages, was entertained by Tadcaster's Riverside School Choir, the Manor School Jazz Group and the York Citadel Band and Songster Brigade.
Keith said: "Thanks to the enthusiasm and commitment of the young people who took part and our band and songsters it was a very successful evening and we hope to make it an annual event. We are delighted to give this donation to St Leonard's and hope that they will soon reach their £2 million goal."
Judy Metcalfe, community fundraiser for St Leonard's, who attended the concert on Saturday night and received the cheque from Keith, said: "A huge amount of hard work had gone into making Saturday night's concert such a lovely event. Thank you to everyone who performed on the night and supported - with enthusiasm like this, we know we will reach our target soon".
