BY THEIR very nature, submariners tend not to be seen. They pass beneath the surface and stay out of sight.
But yesterday old submariners were much in evidence at Eden Camp as the Royal Mail launched a new set of stamps.
While we agree that releasing stamps to commemorate the often unsung work of the submarine service is a fine idea, there is surely an irony in choosing Malton to do so.
You would have to sniff long and deep to smell the sea from Eden Camp, but at least these handsome new stamps honour our unsung, underwater heroes.
