Visitors to the newly-reopened Jorvik Viking Centre found themselves frozen in time when the attraction's new ride ground to a halt due to a technical hitch.
The ride has stopped three times since the attraction opened last Saturday and two of those stops took place yesterday, when the "time capsules" were held up for a total of 12 minutes.
Juliana Delaney, director of operations and marketing for Jorvik, said: "We're running a brand new and very expensive ride system which is at the moment still bedding in.
"The ride is only 12 inches off the ground, it's not a roller-coaster ride and all our visitors were informed and were offered a second ride so I think they had a good deal."
Meanwhile Mrs Delaney said visitors have been queuing round the block since the attraction re-opened and are moving a lot more quickly than before because the new time capsules carry six people instead of four.
There are also more capsules than there were old-style time cars.
