York Acorn reached the magical 18-point barrier in the National Conference Second division with a stunning 14-8 home win over promotion chasing Crosfields.
Acorn took the honours with a great tackling display led by captain Lee Frank, man of the match full-back Jon Hough, stand-off Andy Lee and teenage scrum-half Johnny Waldron.
The hard drives up the middle were done by packmen Carl Rollinson, Chris Soulsby and second rower Dave Norman.
Acorn scored first on 18 minutes when 18-year-old prop Nicky Caldwell proved unstoppable from close range.
Hough added the extras before Crosfields replied alomst immediately with a try in the corner by left winger Fraser Linaker.
On 21 minutes Acorn increased their lead when Hough put over a penalty goal. Crosfields winger Linaker scored wide out in the 52nd minute to level the scores but Acorn re-took the lead on 65 minutes when Rollinson burst through from 25 yards out to feed Johnny Waldron to score. Hough added the extras to give Acorn the win that should dispel any lingering re-election doubts.
Acorn travel to Normanton Knights tomorrow for a 6.45pm kick-off. Players to meet at the clubhouse at 5pm.
