A teenager who was struck by a car on York's outer ring road after a night out clubbing died early today.
Matthew James Wilson, 18, of Skelton, was taken to York District Hospital and then transferred to Leeds General Infirmary with serious head and internal injuries following the accident in the early hours of yesterday.
York police reported that he died of his injuries in hospital early today, and described the accident as a "tragedy".
Clubbers who may have seen Matthew at ikon & diva and motorists who saw him walking along the ring road were today urged to contact police.
The crash happened at about 2.45am when a Rover 216 hatchback travelling along the York outer ring road was in collision with Mr Wilson, who was in the carriageway near the Clifton Moor shopping complex.
The driver of the car, which was travelling towards the B1363 Helmsley road roundabout, was Nicholas Wallen, 30, of Stillington, near Easingwold. He was unhurt.
Sergeant Bernard Winder, of North Yorkshire police, said it was believed Mr Wilson had been at the Ikon/Diva nightclub in Clifton Moor prior to the accident.
He added: "It is believed a lorry flashed its lights at the car driver prior to the collision and a few cars may have been in the area."
Sgt Nigel Atkinson urged anyone who saw Matthew in the club or on the carriageway to contact York police on 01904 631321.
