I SEE Barratt Homes may develop the Clifton Preparatory School site in The Avenue, Clifton, York, now owned by St Peter's School.
Clifton Preparatory School was founded and originally owned by its redoubtable headmistress, Miss Phyllis I Meaby. Miss Meaby was famed for her severe grey hair always being pulled back into a bun, and her forays on her ancient bicycle.
However, she was the first person to recognise Dame Judi Dench's potential and appointed her head girl in the late 1940s. I hope Barratt Homes recognise this in some form, otherwise I could imagine a quiet but insistent ghost cycling over the ground to remind the newcomers who the site really belonged to.
