I HAVE been very interested to read lately of the concern of certain residents of Clifton about the Queen Anne School site, and the way that it was sold.

If these concerned residents had been more concerned when there was a battle to keep the school in a state system, then the present situation might not have arisen.

St Peter's would not have been selling the tennis courts for housing because they would have needed them, they wouldn't be selling the Clifton Prep buildings because they wouldn't be moving across into the St Olave's buildings. It may not be everyone's idea of the perfect solution, but at least we are sure that the school will be looked after and the wonderful facilities used to the full.

Many of the people protesting about the situation chose to send their children to other schools, which of course, was the reason that Queen Anne was closed. If the pupils numbers hadn't dropped then the council wouldn't have had any grounds for closure. It seems to be a case of nimbyism yet again.

Surely it is better that the school site goes for education rather than building, even though the selling price for the best educational facility in the area won't even cover the cost of the extension at Canon Lee, and so we may all be paying yet more council tax.
