York and District youngsters had a great chance of winning their section of the Yorkshire Under 18s Bowls League when they beat rivals Hornsea at home, 35-14 on aggregate, writes Ian Clough.
Phil Scott, Josh Cahill and Katrina Smith were trailing 5-4 when they went on a great run scoring 17 shots over the next five ends to lead 21-5 en route to a 21-10 success.
In the other rink, Liam Cahill, Adam Tattersall and Phil Herridge had an equally convincing win being in control from the start to the finish winning 20-4.
But in the rearranged game at Hornsea York's same-again rinks took time to find the pace of the green. Cahill narrowly lost 15-14 and Scott went down 12-7 thus giving the aggregate score of 27-21 and the maximum six points to the home side.
In the same group, New Earswick's youngsters had a fantastic victory from an unusually high scoring game against Huddersfield which included a maximum nine shots on the penultimate end from Alistair Domville, Robert Domville and Nick Ollis in their 33-4 triumph.
Stephen Long, Michael Ollis and Tom Aveyard staged a marvellous fight back. After trailing 8-2 they won six out of the remaining eight ends to take the game 18-11.
