First-class service has led to the presentation of two hospitality "Oscars" to York's Dean Court Hotel.

The hotel is the only city business to win two awards in one year.

The York and District Hospitality Association presented the hotel with prizes for the chef and receptionist of the year at a glittering awards ceremony.

And the hotel's general manager, David Brooks, said: "In the three years since the awards started we have become the only company to have won two in one year.

"It is a remarkable achievement and I am extremely proud, both of the ladies who won and of the business."

The plaudits were given to Serena Clifford, who was named receptionist of the year, and Teresa Fan, who became chef of the year.

Mr Brooks said: "Both are absolutely thrilled, but both have done extremely well and thoroughly deserved the awards.

"Serena is an absolute natural, but she was convinced that she had no chance of winning this."

The hotel will be making a strong effort to repeat its success by entering again next year.

Mr Brooks said: "This really is the 'Oscars' for our line of business, and to get rewards is such a tremendous boost for confidence and morale."
