THOUSANDS of pounds have been raised for York's elderly people in a masked Venetian ball at the city's Merchant Adventurers Hall.
More than 170 people gathered at the Age Concern ball on Saturday night, when between £2,000 and £3,000 was raised to buy a new minibus.
Guests were asked to come along in fancy dress or carry an eye mask. And organisers said it was a huge hit.
Carol Knight, a fundraiser for Age Concern in York, said every colour and adornment under the sun was used to decorate the masks.
She said: "There were some fantastic masks worn. Mine was black with sparkly bits on it, but there were some weird and wonderful ones as well.
"Lots of feathers, sequins and beads."
The charity needs to raise £28,000 to replace its existing mini-bus which is used around York for the benefit of the elderly.
This year is the 30th year of Age Concern in York and the charity is planning a thanksgiving and celebration service in York Minster on October 2.
