YOU report that cancer services may be transferred to Leeds (March 21). Negotiations are being pursued vigorously at the moment to re-open York's Medical School, one of the main motives being to train and retain general practitioners for East Yorkshire.
A vital part of the training of these students will be wide exposure to the many common cancers, and how they may be diagnosed early, one of the keys to success in the cure of cancer. How will these students acquire essential knowledge if the patients have been moved elsewhere? I seem to remember hearing much in 1997 about "joined-up Government" and "integrated services".
