YORK'S soggy Kings Staith was dried out by the miracle of television last night.
Millions of viewers watching ITV's comedy drama At Home With The Braithwaites saw character Virginia Braithwaite sup a drink outside the Kings Arms on a river bank free of floodwater.
This was no special effect. The series must have been filmed before the rains came. But the broadcast could not have been better timed. It might persuade viewers around the country that they don't need flippers and a diving suit to visit York.
