Jordan Worabeck, who was making his debut in the competition, won York and District Snooker Association's January Knockout Handicap Competition, the eleventh monthly qualifying tournament for the association's Champion of Champions Cup.
Worabeck beat Mick Caunt on the colours, 40-27, in January final of the Heworth Minibuses sponsored event played at the Cueball Club.
The champions' hoodoo struck again when December winner Ian Harrison was beaten 88-49 by Adam Scaife in the preliminary round.
In the quarter-finals there were wins by three players receiving the maximum 35 point handicap, Scaife, Worabeck and Mick Caunt.
In the two high-scoring semi-finals Worabeck and Caunt won 82-80 and 82-69 respectively.
In a low scoring Plate competition final 12-year-old Kevin Gregson beat Mark Dodds 41-28 to claim his third Plate success.
The monthly champions of the main competition between last March and February this year will be invited by the association to enter the first annual Champions of Champions tournament to be held at the Cueball Club on Saturday, March 31.
The monthly winners so far are: March, Simon Barrass; April, Paul Roberts; May, Pete Musson; June, Phil Anderson; July, John Dowd; August, Peter Lawson; September, Paul Stanton; October, Pete Musson; November, Glen Mountain; December, Ian Harrison; January Jordan Worabeck.
Only one place reamins to be filled and the next qualifying competition will be held at the Cueball Club on Wednesday, February 28, starting at 7.15pm. Contact Gary Penrose on York (o0904) 415181 as soon as possible to book an entry.
