A YORK-based construction firm is helping to bring the rail network up to scratch with a £250,000 revamp of a Yorkshire railway station.
Guildford Construction, of Huntington, responsible for revamping Pickering railway station, has now begun work at New Pudsey Station, on the Leeds-Bradford line.
The station has closed while track replacement and signalling work progresses - and passengers are being taken to their destinations by bus.
A complete re-fit of the ticket office, along with the building of two brick platform shelters - complete with CCTV security - are included in the 14-week programme which is being funded by Northern Spirit and the West Yorkshire Transport Authority.
John Guildford, managing director of Guildford Construction, said: "This is a very time-sensitive job for us. We need to have everything completed for when the line reopens.
"Passengers will notice a big difference when the station is unveiled, particularly with the new waiting shelters which are a lot more substantial that the old ones they are replacing."
