AN ENGINEERING consultancy with a base in York has been named as one of the best companies in the UK for which to work.
Oscar Faber, which has an office at Clifton Moor, was ranked 46th in the country in a Sunday Times survey.
The survey, which is based on the comments of employees of firms all over the country, found that Oscar Faber staff gave the company high marks for having a "relaxed and unpressured" environment.
Staff also said management were good at listening to them.
"We have worked hard to develop a forward-thinking management philosophy that encourages individuals to realise their own potential and to have the opportunity to take a personal stake in the company's future," said Oscar Faber chief executive Ken Dalton.
To decide the rankings the organisers sent questionnaires to a random sample of 250 of each company's employees.
They were asked searching questions about their employers' human resources policies, workplace practices, philosophy and company culture.
The survey's organisers said those companies designated as great places to work generally had above-average share performances and usually outperformed their rivals in the marketplace.
"This confirms my own belief that success breeds success, and that happy companies tend to be successful ones," said Mr Dalton.
"It also verifies the point that has emerged strongly in staff surveys over the past three years - that the people who work here are proud of working for Oscar Faber."
